Dan Wheldon Ambassador Award Taken Over By Mike Maurini and Will Continue at the 2015 Florida Winter Tour
Tuesday, 16 December 2014 12:04

Bill Wright’s award tradition to continue under new series management

With the group of people at the MAXSpeed Entertainment taking over the reigns of the Florida Winter Tour, employees were thrust into action immediately to organize, plan and make changes to one of the largest and most competitive series in North American karting. With the addition of the ROK Cup USA program and the evolution of the Rotax MAX Challenge weekend, few items were over looked as the planning continued throughout the last quarter of this year.

“One of the awards that I wanted to see continue under the new management of the series was the Dan Wheldon Ambassador Award that had been a sought after prize in the Florida Winter Tour for the past three seasons,” explained Mike Maurini, owner of Race Tech Development, Koene USA and great friend of the late Dan Wheldon. “Being proactive, I made a few phone calls and offered my hand to help rekindle the award for the 2015 Florida Winter Tour. I know it means a lot to Bill Wright, several members of the karting community and myself, and with the help of Richard Boisclair from MAXSpeed Entertainment, he agreed that I would be the perfect successor to manage the award.”

ROK and Rotax weekends stacked with talent and competition; reminder Homestead hotel blocks will soon expire

Just over one month from today, the 2015 Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour Powered by MAXSpeed Entertainment will embark on a new tradition, as it will be the first time in its existence that the FWT will be without legendary promoter Bill Wright. Taken over by MAXSpeed Entertainment earlier this year, the Florida based crew has been hard at work finalizing all the details for the 2015 edition of the series. Opening registration on December 1, entries began to flood in, as records were broken during the first day of registration.

“We had a tremendous amount of entries come in during the opening day,” explained MAXSpeed Entertainment’s Garett Potter. “We were expecting the numbers to be good but they were overwhelming by the close of the first day. With a record number of pre-entries for the opening day ever, more than 90% off all entrants registered for both the ROK and Rotax weekends of competition.”

Excitement begins for 2015 edition of the FWT

Continuing to increase momentum towards the 2015 season, MAXSpeed Entertainment is pleased to announce that registration for the Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour powered by MAXSpeed Entertainment will open on Monday, December 1. With the first event weekend just over eight weeks away, the Florida Winter Tour will see the ROK Cup USA program kick off the popular winter series with the Rotax MAX Challenge following the very next weekend. With tickets on the line to the ROK International Final and Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, wheel-to-wheel action is set to be fierce in the 17th annual Florida Winter Tour.

“We are very excited to have everything in place to open registration,” explained MAXSpeed Entertainment’s Garett Potter. “The entire team behind the Florida Winter Tour has worked extremely hard to improve and make this process as streamline as possible with the series just around the corner. We have had a lot of interest from not only our teams in North America, but from around the world. With the addition of the ROK engine program the first weekend, racers and teams are showing great interest in running both weekends, which is great news. It’s going to be huge!  We hope to help kick off the ROK-N-ROTAX weekends by offering big incentives at registration to race both weekends with savings up to $450.00.”

Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour powered by MAXSpeed Entertainment

After stepping up to the plate to support several US Rotax programs in 2014 Cold Stone Creamery will continue their support of more MAXSpeed promoted programs in 2015. Putting their name on the Florida Winter Tour as the title sponsor, the 2015 edition of the winter program will be dubbed the ‘Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour powered by MAXSpeed Entertainment.’

"Cold Stone has been nothing but exceptional in their support of Rotax and MAXSpeed promoted events," explained Garett Potter. "With their support, we have been able to put on what we feel has been the best US Grand Nationals and Pan American Challenge events ever. Now with their support of the entire Florida Winter Tour, we are looking to continue this trend into 2015 and beyond."

"I love the sport of karting as it is truly racing in its purest form," explained Andy DeFrancesco, a partner in Cold Stone Creamery. "I would love for the world to see it, grasp it and understand it as we the parents, mechanics, team, track owners and most importantly the drivers do. It needs exposure beyond the walls of the karting industry itself and I try to do whatever I can to help promote it."

MAXSpeed’s team of employees and partners continue plans for 2015 season

After the recent announcement of the acquisition of the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT), MAXSpeed Entertainment is pleased to announce some more details for the 2015 edition of the popular and competitive series. The upcoming season will feature changes but still encompass the back-to-back race weekends, which will now include the ROK Cup USA classes, making stops at beloved FWT tracks Homestead Karting, Orlando Kart Center, and the Ocala Gran Prix.

When news hit that the Formula Kart weekends of the Florida Winter Tour would become ROK Cup USA weekends, it took the karting community by storm. As for the single engine ROK decision, promoters have tried for several years to run a TaG multiple engine program, with very little success. After talking with drivers, teams and industry leaders, MAXSpeed Entertainment felt it was in the best interest for the sport to help stabilize the market, starting in Florida.
